Wardha constituency in Maharashtra has seen a blend of tight contests and shifting political alliances. In the 2019 assembly elections, BJP's Dr. Pankaj Rajesh Bhoyar emerged victorious with 79,739 votes, defeating Congress' Shekhar Pramod Shende, who secured 71,806 votes. The margin of victory was 7,933 votes, solidifying Bhoyar’s position in the constituency.
This victory for Bhoyar was not a first—he had previously won the seat in 2014 with 45,897 votes, defeating Shende by 8,550 votes. Bhoyar's consistent performance showcases BJP's growing influence in Wardha, where Congress had long been a dominant force.
In 2009, the seat saw a surprising result with independent candidate Deshmukh Suresh Bapuraoji securing 52,085 votes to win the seat. Shende of the Congress was pushed into second place with 40,420 votes, losing by 11,665 votes. This was a rare deviation from the usual Congress dominance in Wardha.
In 2004, Congress' Shende Pramod Bhusaheb made a comeback, securing 53,963 votes to win the seat comfortably. He defeated independent candidate Shyam Gaikwad by a margin of 19,232 votes, maintaining Congress' stronghold in the region.
The 1999 election saw another Congress win with Shende Pramod Bhausaheb securing 45,188 votes, defeating NCP's Suresh Bapuraoji Deshmukh by 8,037 votes. Congress’ consistent victories in the late 90s and early 2000s reflected its long-standing influence in the region.
Wardha remains a fiercely contested constituency, with both BJP and Congress holding sway in different years, making it one to watch in upcoming elections.
