Ranchi: Chief minister
Hemant Soren on Monday laid the foundation stone for the renovation of Ram-Janaki mandir, also known as Tapovan temple, in Nivaranpur following a religious ceremony held on the temple premises in presence of several priests and dignitaries, including former union minister Subodh Kant Sahay.
On the occasion, the CM performed special prayers and expressed his hope for the timely completion of the temple's revamp. "The foundation of the temple was laid on this sacred land of Tapovan. We want the construction to be completed at the earliest. This will further strengthen the faith of devotees," said the CM.
The new temple's design will feature 117 carved stones and 13 pillars, with 9 stones placed in each sanctum sanctorum. The temple will be constructed under the supervision of renowned architects CV Sonpura and Ashish Sonpura, who were also associated with the grand Ram temple in Ayodhya. The estimated cost of construction and decoration is around Rs 100 crore, with a target to complete it in three years.
Chief priest Om Prakash Sharan said, "The Ram-Janaki temple, established approximately 286 years ago, is a significant spiritual centre for the followers of Sanatan Dharma. It holds immense historical and religious importance, with legends stating that the idols of Ramlala and Mata Sita were discovered here centuries ago. The idol of Hanuman ji installed in the temple was brought from the Ratu fort by the ancestors of the chief priest."
Sharan added, "This land is one of penance. It is believed that all true prayers to Thakur ji are fulfilled here. The temple sees massive footfall, especially during Ram Navami, when devotees from across the state and beyond gather to offer prayers to Ram Janaki and Lord Hanuman. A grand procession of Mahavir carrying the sacred flag marks the celebration."
