3 arrested in Noida for trying to smuggle marijuana worth Rs 40 lakh from Odisha
Noida: Police arrested three smugglers on Sunday, seizing 150 kg of marijuana valued at Rs 40 lakh, which was being peddled into the district from Odisha. The operation's mastermind, Inamulhaq, a repeat offender recently released from jail, was among those arrested. Investigation revealed that Inamulhaq had established a new smuggling network, sourcing marijuana from Tanku in Odisha, Andhra Pradesh and the Bihar border. The gang used specially modified trucks with hidden compartments in the container base to transport the contraband. A similar truck was also seized by the police.
Other arrested suspects have been identified as Shahnawaz and Noman. They were arrested in a joint operation by a CRT team and Badalpur police, said Shakti Mohan Avasthy, DCP central Noida.
Inamulhaq also said the ganja is of high quality, made with leaves from the hills. It is dried for several months, pressed and shaped in the form of slippers before being taken to the market for sale. The process increases the potency of the drug. The accused estimate it to be priced at Rs 25,000-30,000 per kg. The accused said they supplied the ganja to a man named Salman in Dadri.
A case was registered under sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, at Badalpur. Further investigation to trace the other members of the gang is underway, said Avasthy.
