Maha govt appoints former BMC chief Iqbal Chahal as Guardian Secretary for Mumbai district
Mumbai: The state government has appointed Guardian Secretaries to serve as coordinators to help districts progress across sectors and improve the quality of life for citizens. Under this initiative, Iqbal Singh Chahal the former BMC chief has been given the responsibility of Guardian Secretary for Mumbai District. To conduct a detailed review of various ongoing issues, Chahal held a meeting at the BMC headquarters along with the BMC commissioner and other civic officers on Tuesday, April 15, 2025.
There was a discussion on long-pending projects of MHADA, SRA, MMRDA, the Deonar project, housing projects, and redevelopment of police colonies. Chahal said that funds will be made available by the government to take precautionary measures against potential landslides in hilly areas during the monsoon. MHADA officials raised issues related to the BDD chawls and Kamathipura projects. MMRDA officials provided updates on metro projects.
He also stated that a meeting of senior officials from relevant state departments will be convened at Mantralaya soon to review these projects.
