HYDERABAD: Wall posters condemning Maoist activities surfaced across Eturunagaram mandal in Mulugu district on Monday, sparking tension in the region. Allegedly issued in the name of the ‘Adivasi Yuvajana Sangham', the posters were prominently displayed at key locations, including intersections and RTC bus stands.
The posters strongly criticised Maoists for allegedly threatening tribal communities, particularly concerning access to the Karri Gutta hillock, which spans Wajedu and Venkatapuram mandals near the Telangana-Chhattisgarh border. They accused the Maoists of waging an undeclared war against Adivasis and questioned their ideology, pointing to the planting of pressure mines and issuing of death threats to tribals entering forest areas.
One of the posters read: "Maoists' warning – Adivasis should not come to Karri Gutta. If they come, we will blow them up with bombs and kill them. Is this your ideology? Is this what your fight is for? There is an undeclared war of the Maoists against the Adivasis!"
Mulugu district superintendent of police P Sabarish confirmed the appearance of the posters and said police were closely monitoring the situation. "In recent months, two tribals—a man and a woman—were injured by pressure mines planted by Maoists in Karri Gutta. Last year, one person lost his life. There is growing resentment among Adivasis, as the mines pose a threat to their lives and livelihood," he said.
