DAVANAGERE: The Channagiri police apprehended five individuals for allegedly attacking women, following a video of the incident going viral on social media.
The suspects were identified as Mohammad Niyaz, Mohammad Gauspeer, Chand Basha, Inayat Ullah, Dastagir, and Rasool TR, who reportedly carried out an assault on Shabina Banu, who is married to Jamil Ahmed.
Following Shabina Banu's formal complaint on April 11, 2025, the Channagiri police filed various charges. The investigation team was headed by CPI Ravish under senior police supervision.
The authorities swiftly arrested all suspects after gathering substantial evidence of their involvement. The investigation continues to progress.
Police reports indicate that Nasrin, a relative of Shabina, was staying at her residence on April 11. When Fayaz, a friend of Nasrin's, visited Shabina's house, her husband Jamil Ahmed disapproved and sent a letter to the mosque.
Subsequently, the accused summoned Shabina, Nasrin, and Fayaz to the mosque, where they attacked Shabina. After the assault video started making rounds on social media, police identified the location and the suspects, leading to their arrest on Sunday.
