Kochi:
India meteorological department (IMD) issued a yellow alert for maximum temperature for eight districts on Wednesday. Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod are on high temperature alert.
There is also a warning for thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds, with speeds reaching 40-50km/h, likely at one or two places over Kerala on Wednesday and Thursday.
Maximum temperatures are likely to be around 37C at some places in Palakkad district and around 36C at isolated places in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod districts on Wednesday. IMD said hot and humid weather was likely over these districts, except in hilly areas, due to high temperature and humidity.
In the last 24 hours, maximum temperatures rose appreciably in Ernakulam district, and it was above normal in Kozhikode district. Palakkad recorded the highest maximum temperature of 37C.
Incois has issued a swell surge alert for Thiruvananthapuram, Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kollam, Kasaragod and Kannur on Wednesday. Swell waves in the range of 16.0-18.0 seconds period with 1.1-1.4m height are forecast. It advised that boats ply with utmost vigilance and recreation should be undertaken with due care.
