According to sources, the conflict began when a woman lecturer admonished the student from talking loudly over phone on the college premises. When the student continued with her call despite the warning, the lecturer confiscated her mobile phone. Irked at this, the student started verbally abusing the lecturer.
The situation escalated when the student removed her footwear and started assaulting the lecturer in front of other students. Some students present at the spot tried to intervene and restrain her but the student did not stop. The entire episode was recorded by one of students present there.
Lecturer, college didn’t file complaint
The viral video has sparked a debate among netizens regarding students’ eroding respect towards teachers and the standards of conduct within colleges. Bheemili police said that though they were aware of the incident, they haven’t received any complaint from the lecturer or the college management regarding this.
Meanwhile, sources said that the college management cautioned the student for her misconduct but did not initiate any action against her following her parents’ request, and taking into account the prospects of the student.
However, netizens slammed the student for her rude behaviour and disrespect to the teaching faculty. One netizen posted on social media “Please do not entertain such types of students. I request you to debar or dismiss the student from the college with the issuance of TC with bad character.”
Another netizen posted, “Small advice to present teachers is to let these students do whatever they want, don’t try to correct them, they are not like 90’s kids any more. They clearly know they are on the wrong path and let them realise when time hits them back.”
