MEERUT: A 48-year-old television actor, Lalit Manchanda, who recently returned to Meerut from Mumbai, died by suicide at his home in the Prahlad Nagar on Monday night, police said.
Ashok Kumar, station house officer (SHO), Lisari Gate, told TOI, "As soon as we received the information, a team reached the actor's house and sent the deceased's body for post-mortem. Prima facie, the actor died by suicide owing to depression and financial crisis."
The SHO added, "The actor was found hanging from a ceiling fan by his family on Tuesday. They said he was suffering from depression due to financial problems. No formal complaint has been filed in the matter."
Manchanda worked in popular TV shows like CID, Crime Patrol, and Savdhaan India, and Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah.
