Man accused of raping and killing minor girl in Kalyan found dead in Navi Mumbai jail

Vishal Gawli, a 35-year-old undertrial accused of the rape and murder of a 13-year-old girl, died by suicide at Taloja jail. He hanged himself in the toilet using a towel. Gawli was arrested last December along with his wife, Sakshi, who is accused of helping him dispose of the victim's body and is currently held at Byculla jail.

NAVI MUMBAI: A 35-year-old undertrial identified as Vishal Gawli who was arrested by Thane police in Dec last year for allegedly committing rape and murder of a 13-year-old girl after kidnapping her from Kalyan has died by suicide at Taloja jail.
Deepak Surve, senior inspector of Kharghar police station said, "We recieved information from Taloja jail officer that on Sunday around 4.30 am, the undertrial Vishal Gawli went to the toilet at the barrack and hanged himself using a towel tying it's other end to the iron grille of the toilet. "
He further stated ,"The toilet doesn't have a door so that the guard can keep a watch on the undertrial visiting the toilet. However, Gawali went to the toilet early morning when all undertrials were asleep and even the on duty guards at the barrack were far away.

Gawli's wife Sakshi was also arrested in Dec last year by Thane police, by tracing the couple to Buldhana, for helping him to dispose of the girl's body. She is lodged at Byculla jail for women. The deceased Gawli's body has been sent to JJ hospital, Mumbai for postmortem."
