He’s beaten legends like Max Holloway and Jose Aldo, and even survived a terrifying guillotine choke from Brian Ortega that looked like it was seconds away from ending the fight. “The Great” has made a career out of proving people wrong and fighting with a grit that’s earned him fans all over the world. But sometimes, no matter how many belts you’ve won or how many battles you’ve survived, it’s your own family that brings you back down to earth the quickest.
Volkanovski recently shared a moment at home that did just that—when his daughter hit him with a brutally funny comment after his knockout loss to Islam Makhachev.
Even world champs get roasted: Alexander Volkanovski’s daughter keeps him humble
With UFC 314 just hours away and
Volkanovski looking to win back the featherweight title against Diego Lopes, the Aussie has been reflecting on everything that’s led up to this point. It’s been a tough stretch. First, he took two losses to Makhachev—one of them a violent knockout—and then dropped his belt to Ilia Topuria.
But of all the feedback he’s gotten over the last year, none hit quite like the one that came straight from his young daughter.
In a TikTok video, Volk told the story with a smile:
“She’s like I’m scared’, I’m like, ‘What are you scared of darling’? [She replied], ‘Oh what if someone breaks in’?”
“I’m like, ‘Darling, your door is open, I’m right there, no one is going to break in’. She’s like, ‘What if they break in this window’?
“I’m like, ‘I’m right here, I’m a world champion, I’m sure I’ll sort it out’. She goes, ‘What if it’s Islam Makhachev’? I just started laughing.”
For a guy who’s faced down some of the most dangerous fighters on the planet, that little jab from his daughter might’ve been the one that really stung the most—but in the best way.
