MEERUT: A 13-year-old boy, studying in class 7, allegedly shot his 18-year-old neighbour in a celebratory fire during an IPL match in Meerut on Saturday night.
The accused student has brought out his grandfather's licenced double-barrel gun and pulled the trigger in excitement while watching the cricket match at his home in the district's Khajuri village.
SP (rural) Rakesh Kumar Mishra said, "A bullet struck Mohd Kaif, 18, on the forehead, killing him on the spot. Kaif was a DPharma student and a resident of the same village. Both were watching an IPL match. Initial probe suggests the boy stayed back while his family went to Meerut city for a wedding."
Hearing the noise of gunfire, neighbours rushed to the house and found Kaif lying in a pool of blood. The body was sent for postmortem and the weapon was seized. A forensic team was called in to examine the place.
SP Mishra added: "The accused has been taken into custody for questioning. We'll terminate the gun's licence. An FIR has been registered against the accused student under BNS section 103 (murder). It seems to be a case of accidental fire. Further investigation is on."
