Constitution has remedy for all problems, says Karnataka speaker UT Khader
Mangaluru: The Constitution, drafted under the leadership of BR Ambedkar, serves as a remedy for all the challenges faced by the country, said speaker UT Khader. He asserted that it is the duty of govts to ensure a peaceful environment for citizens by upholding the values enshrined in the Constitution.
He was speaking at the 134th birth anniversary celebrations of BR Ambedkar, organised at Kudmul Ranga Rao Town Hall on Monday.
"True patriots are those who follow the ideals of the Constitution. Understanding history is essential to making history. We must internalise Ambedkar's principles and encourage everyone to read the Constitution," Khader said.
Drawing comparisons with Western democracies, he noted that while countries like the United States and France adopted democratic systems centuries ago, women were denied voting rights for a long time. "In contrast, India granted voting rights to women at the time of the Constitution's formation. Because of the rights guaranteed in our Constitution, people today can travel fearlessly from Kashmir to Kanyakumari," he added.
Addressing the gathering, MP Capt Brijesh Chowta stressed Ambedkar's extraordinary contribution to preserving the country's unity and empowering the most marginalised. "India's emergence as the fifth-largest global power is also a testament to Ambedkar's legacy. His commitment to geographical and cultural unity has ensured the Constitution remains timeless," he said.
He further noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has honoured not only Ambedkar's image and statues but also his ideology. Several important sites associated with Ambedkar's life from his birthplace to locations of education, enlightenment, and final rest have been developed into places of national importance, he said.
The event also saw the felicitation of meritorious SSLC and PUC students from govt welfare hostels and the symbolic distribution of sanction letters to beneficiaries of various schemes under the Ambedkar Development Corporation. Vasudeva Belle, principal of Govt PU College, Mulki, delivered the keynote address.
MLC Ivan D'Souza, Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy president Stany Alvares, city police commissioner Anupam Agrawal, ZP CEO Anandh K, additional deputy commissioner Santosh Kumar, and SP Yatish N were present.
