Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh Fire and Emergency Services began to observe fire safety week from April 14 to April 16, coinciding with the national fire safety week, traditionally held from April 14 to April 20.
The state's fire services currently operate 318 fire stations across 75 districts with 43 additional stations under construction. During the Maha Kumbh 2025 in Prayagraj, the department invested Rs 66.75 crore in equipment and vehicles.
A senior fire officer said that the fire department was strengthened last year during which around 18 multi-disaster response vehicles, three articulating water towers, 75 first quick response vehicles, 135 emergency motor engine bikes, 36 water tenders, 45 Bolero Campers, 16 Isuzu utility vehicles, 40 portable pumps and 30 backpack pumps were added.
The department operates with 6,384 personnel supported by 1,712 machines and vehicles. In 2024, the department responded to 54,801 emergency calls across the state and saved 4,252 human lives and 6,540 animals. It also protected property worth Rs 865 crore and conducted 18,787 mock drills, reaching 437,315 people through awareness programmes.
The department established 69 seasonal fire stations in rural areas between March and June, with similar arrangements planned for the winter months. Since 2024, 34,422 fire safety NOCs have been issued out of 44,463 applications received.
