Kochi: As a prelude to starting its flight operations, Air Kerala will open its main office in Kochi on April 15. According to the officials with the Air Kerala, the first flight will take off from Kochi in June.
The inaugural service will connect Kochi with one of the major destinations in south India, officials with the airline said. The directorate general of civil aviation (DGCA) will have to give clearance for the airline regarding the destinations. "Industries minister P Rajeeve will inaugurate the state-of-the-art corporate office in Aluva. The office is designed to accommodate over 200 aviation experts working simultaneously. It is expected that more than 750 job opportunities will be created by the end of this year. Initially launching domestic services, Air Kerala will soon expand to international services. The company will operate ultra-low-cost flight services," said Air Kerala chairman Afi Ahmed.
Agreements were made with Irish companies to lease five aircraft, and there were plans to purchase aircraft as well, said vice-chairman Ayub Kallada. Air Kerala services will connect small towns in southern and central India with metro cities. The services will use ATR aircraft with 76 seats, all of which will be economy class.
