Indore: Three persons allegedly involved in printing counterfeit currency were arrested and the fake currency was seized from their possession on Monday.
Acting on a tip-off, police searched a hotel and caught three persons with counterfeit banknotes. A colour printer, paper used for printing fake notes, a laptop, ATM cards, and other materials were recovered from their possession. All of them hail from Chhindwara district.
The operation, conducted under the guidance of DCP Rajesh Tripathi, led to the arrest of Abdul Shoaib, Rahees Khan and Prafulla Kumar Kori. During the initial interrogation, the accused claimed they came to Indore for personal work and were staying at the hotel. However, upon suspicion, a search of their bags revealed a bundle containing counterfeit currency to the tune of Rs 50,000.
Further search of their belongings led to the recovery of more counterfeit notes of different series. The police also seized a colour printer, lamination sheets, wooden tools, paper sheets used for printing the fake notes, a laptop, ATM cards and other related materials from the accused.
The Crime Branch is conducting investigations to ascertain the extent of the racket, identify other individuals involved and determine the source of the raw materials used for printing the fake currency. The arrested accused are being interrogated to uncover their modus operandi and the distribution network of the counterfeit notes, Tripathi said.
