50 MP officials to be trained on monitoring thunderstorm
Indore: To master aviation challenges emanating from cumulonimbus clouds and to enhance aviation safety, particularly at airports with heavy traffic and new facilities through precise forecasting techniques, approximately 50 officials, including airport staff, army personnel, Airports Authority of India (AAI), and other aviation-related sectors from Madhya Pradesh, will attend a pan-India online training programme. The course, crafted by the Aerodrome Meteorological Office (AMO) at Nagpur airport in collaboration with the India Meteorological Society Bhopal, Raipur, and Nagpur chapters, aims to provide participants with the requisite tools to enhance aviation safety through precise thunderstorm monitoring and forecasting techniques by specialists from the field.
Dr GD Mishra, a retired scientist from IMD Bhopal and advisor to the India Meteorological Society Bhopal chapter, said, "Madhya Pradesh, being centrally located, has high traffic of aircraft and with new airports opening up in Satna, Datia, and Rewa, air traffic will further increase. This makes it all the more important to have a thorough know-how of weather-related challenges in the aviation sector to ensure smooth operations at airports and mid-air. This is the first time that such an elaborate training programme is being conducted pan-India for everyone related to the aviation sector." "More than 50 officials from various aviation-related sectors in Madhya Pradesh are part of this training programme to ensure smooth operations and aviation safety at airports. Thunderstorms are often associated with hazardous weather phenomena such as intense rainfall, strong winds, hailstorms, lightning, icing, turbulence, and thunder. These conditions can significantly impact aviation operations, posing risks to aircraft safety, air traffic control, and airport ground operations. This training aims to equip aviation professionals with the essential knowledge and skills to monitor, forecast, and respond to thunderstorms and their associated hazards effectively," said Dr Rizwan Ahmed, Director and Scientist D, AMO Nagpur.
