Govt school teacher rapes student;19yo attempts suicide after threats

Dehradun: A 45-year-old govt school teacher allegedly raped a 19-year-old student after he had called her home for "helping in the garden", police said on Monday. Both belong to the same village and after committing the crime, the accused started threatening her, and the girl then "tried to kill herself".
Police said the incident took place around noon on April 10 and came to light after her brother filed a police complaint against the accused in Dehradun's Chakrata on Sunday.
Chakrata SHO Chandshekhar Singh said, "An FIR was registered against the accused under BNS section 64 (1) (rape). The girl was sent for medical tests on Monday. Her health is said to be stable. The accused is absconding and is yet to be arrested. A probe is on and further action will be taken accordingly."
The 19-year-old allegedly consumed some poisonous substance to end her life on the night of the incident after the accused threatened her against informing cops and started putting pressure on her family to compromise in the matter, police added.
