Demand for FIR against Udaivir sparks protest
Mohali: Tensions flared in Mukandpur village as members of the Gujjar community and local leaders staged a massive protest there Monday, demanding that police register a case against Udaivir Singh Dhillon, son of Congress constituency in-charge Deepinder Singh Dhillon, in connection with a recent violent clash.
Deepinder Singh Dhillon denied the allegations, calling the protest a politically driven attempt to divert attention from illegal mining. "The ruling party is behind this unrest. They attacked the complainants and are now dragging my son's name to suppress those speaking out. The protest has been instigated by local AAP MLA, Kuljit Singh Randhawa, to malign the image of Dhillons and divert attention from illegal mining," he said.
The protest began at 7.30am outside the local police station with demonstrators blocking the road and raising slogans. It continued until 1pm, when DSP Bikramjit Singh Brar arrived at the scene, accepted a memorandum from the protesters, and assured them of appropriate action, prompting the road to be cleared.
Protesters alleged that Udaivir Singh Dhillon was the main instigator of the clash that initially erupted in Mukandpur village and later escalated to a physical confrontation at the civil hospital. They called for the immediate inclusion of his name in the FIR and gave police a two-day ultimatum, warning of intensified protests if their demands were not met. Effigies of Deepinder and Udaivir Singh Dhillon were also burned during the protest.
Community leaders, including market committee member Kuldeep Chaudhary and others from surrounding villages, accused the Dhillons of using the conflict to stir political divisions. "The incident was engineered for political mileage. Had Udaivir Singh not provoked the situation, the clash would never have happened," claimed one of the protesters.
DSP Bikramjit Singh Brar said a full investigation is under way. "We are examining all aspects of the case. If Udaivir Singh Dhillon or anyone else is found guilty, their name will be added in the FIR. Action will be taken strictly based on evidence," he assured. The situation remains tense in Mukandpur, with both factions holding firm to their positions as police continue their probe.
