2,240 litres of extra neutral alcohol seized in Sangrur
Patiala: In a significant breakthrough, the Sangrur police seized around 2,240 litres of illegally pilfered extra neutral alcohol (ENA), thus averting a potential hooch tragedy, Harpal Singh Cheema, minister for finance, planning, excise, and taxation, said on Sunday.
Cheema, who also heads the cabinet sub-committee on ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh', said: "Acting on credible intelligence, a joint team of the excise department and the Sangrur police intercepted a vehicle on the Sangrur-Dirba highway carrying approximately 200 litres of illicit ethanol and arrested its driver Shaan Mohammad."
The excise officials revealed that the vehicle was intercepted on Friday, prompting further investigations. They claimed that further probe led to the discovery of a clandestine storage facility, resulting in the recovery of 34 drums, each containing 60 litres of the ENA, totalling 2,040 litres.
