Bhopal: A couple of months before marriage, a groom-to-be raped the woman with whom his marriage was fixed in Anuppur district. Later, the accused refused to marry her. The accused was arrested on the woman's complaint.
The incident took place in Kotma town of the district in March this year.
The marriage of a resident of Kotma, was fixed with a girl from Chhattisgarh. It was scheduled for May. In March, the accused called the survivor to Kotma for some marriage shopping. She arrived, and the accused took her on his motorcycle, said the police.
Later, the accused took her to his house and raped her. A few days later, he refused to marry her, the police said. "A complaint was made by the survivor after the accused refused to marry her. After we started investigations, both families agreed to the marriage. The accused also agreed, with the condition that the marriage would be held in Kotma town and not Chhattisgarh. However, again, the accused escaped, switched off his phone, and went into hiding. A case of rape was filed and he was arrested," Kotma station incharge, Sundresh Singh Marawi, told TOI.
