AHMEDABAD: A wedding procession that commenced in Tundel village of Kheda district ended in a police station as a man's shirtless dance sparked a clash between families already having a history of disputes that resulted in a series of violence.
A 28-year-old driver from Tundel village, Mahendra Gohil, lodged a complaint at Vaso police station against Raju Solanki, whose shirtless dance allegedly caused the violence. The FIR states that Solanki, who earlier eloped with Gohil's cousin, removed his shirt and danced provocatively in front of his house during the wedding procession.
The event on Sunday night reignited tensions between the families, despite their previous reconciliation two months ago when Solanki returned Gohil's cousin to her in-laws. The situation worsened when Solanki, attending as part of the groom's family, encountered Gohil, who was with the bride's side, at the same wedding. Solanki proceeded to remove his shirt and dance again.
In his complaint, Gohil explained, "We let the past go. But dancing like this in front of our house, as if nothing happened, felt like an invitation to trouble." When Gohil and his uncle approached Solanki at the venue around 11 pm, they were allegedly assaulted by Solanki and his relatives, Dinesh Rathod and Ajay Rathod.
According to Gohil, "They (accused) abused us, hit us with sticks, and during the scuffle, Dinesh took out a knife and stabbed my friend near his elbow. When I tried to stop him, the knife hit me in the stomach."
The situation was diffused by local residents, but the accused departed with threats. "They threatened to kill us before walking off," the complaint stated.
The injured received treatment at Nadiad Civil Hospital. Vaso police have registered a case of causing grievous hurt and abetment against Solanki, Dinesh, and Ajay and started an investigation.
