Pune: A heated verbal exchange between a 24-year-old pedestrian and two men on a motorcycle, over the latter brushing against him, led to a murderous attack on the pedestrian on Sunday night in Chikhali.
An officer from the Chikhali police said the victim, a car driver by profession, was walking along the road with a friend. He was on his way to a cake shop. At this point, the leg of one of the three men going past him on a motorcycle brushed him. This set off an argument, and soon the trio called three more accomplices to the spot. The group of six then assaulted the victim with a sharp weapon, the officer said.
"The victim sustained a blow on his head. He said that during the scuffle, someone snatched his gold chain," the officer said. A case of attempted murder was registered against the six assailants, and two of them were arrested.
One of the assailants lodged a cross-complaint against the victim and his four friends, accusing them of assaulting and abusing him. "The complainant claimed that the victim and his accomplices abused him and attacked him with a sharp weapon. The complainant sustained injuries on his left hand," the officer said.
He said that the police registered a case of voluntarily causing grievous hurt against the victim and his accomplices. "We are yet to make arrests in this case," he said.
