Four held for extorting paan stall owner in Ravet
Pune: The Pimpri Chinchwad police on Sunday arrested four men on the charge of thrashing a paan stall owner from Ravet and extorting Rs1,300 from him.
The incident occurred late on April 11 in Mhaske Vasti in Ravet.
The 29-year-old paan stall owner lodged a complaint with the Ravet police.
The arrested men included three from Ravet and one from Chinchwad. They were charged under sections 308 (2) (extortion), 115 (voluntarily causing hurt), 333 (house-trespass after preparation for hurt), and other relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
An officer from the Ravet police said, according to the complainant, a few days ago, one of the four men came to his paan stall and demanded ‘hafta' from him to run the stall. The complainant refused to give him money.
"Late night on April 11, the four men barged into the stall owner's rented room in Mhaske Vasti and dragged him out. They thrashed him for not giving them money. The men then snatched Rs1,300 from the victim," the officer said.
He said the men also threatened to kill the complainant. They then threatened the people in the area with sharp weapons and left. "We have arrested four of them. Our investigations are on," he said.
