MUMBAI: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, light to moderate rainfall, and gusty winds at isolated places in Mumbai on May 6 and 7. The warning comes as part of a five-day district forecast issued by the Regional Meteorological Centre in Mumbai.
According to the IMD, the thunderstorms are expected to bring gusty winds reaching up to 40 kmph in some parts of the city. Light rain is also expected on May 5 and 8, with dry weather likely to return by May 9.
Neighbouring districts—including Thane, Palghar, and Raigad—are likely to experience similar weather conditions over the next three days. These areas may witness thunderstorms with gusty winds and light to moderate showers from May 5 through May 7. The probability of these events occurring is marked as “Very Likely” by the IMD.
The IMD has advised residents to remain alert, especially during the afternoon and evening hours when thunderstorm activity is usually more intense.
These pre-monsoon showers may bring temporary relief from the heat, said weather forecasters.
