Apple ‘iPhone 17 Air’ rumours hint at this ‘Big’ problem and return of accessory that company discontinued 2 years ago

Apple is said to be working on its next iPhone lineup which may be called and is said to include an ultra-slim model. While reports have suggested a major design change in the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max models, there seems to be a greater interest in the slimmer version, which may be called iPhone 17 Air. According to the latest rumours, this particular model may have a ‘problem’ in terms of battery life.
The Information (via 9to5mac) has reported on new details about Apple’s rumored iPhone 17 Air. The report, citing internal tests, claims that the ultra-slim design comes with a tradeoff: shorter battery life. The thinner model is said to offer around 20% less battery life than the rest of the iPhone 17 lineup.

But Apple has a potential fix in the works—reviving a seemingly fan-favourite accessory. To help users who opt for the sleeker iPhone but still want all-day battery support, Apple is reportedly planning to bring back the discontinued Smart Battery Case, this time tailored specifically for the iPhone 17 Air.
The company had previously shifted to a one-size-fits-all MagSafe battery pack, but that was pulled from shelves when Apple transitioned from Lightning to USB-C ports.
The report also suggests Apple is approaching demand for the iPhone 17 Air cautiously. Only 10% of total production capacity is being allocated to the thinner model, reflecting internal uncertainty about consumer interest. In contrast, the iPhone 17 Pro Max will reportedly make up 40% of manufacturing, while both the standard iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro will each account for 25%.
The report has also claimed that Apple may launch the rumoured iPhone 18 in two batches. In September 2026, it is reported to launch iPhone 18 Pro and foldable iPhone while in Spring 2027, it may bring iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e.
