Mangaluru: In view of a protest meet opposing the Waqf Amendment Act scheduled for Friday at Shah Garden Maidan in Adyar-Kannur, along the Mangaluru-Bengaluru National Highway, Mangaluru City police announced traffic restrictions to manage the expected large turnout.
City police commissioner Anupam Agrawal stated that traffic congestion is likely on both ways of NH-73 between Padil and BC Road from 12pm to 9pm. To ensure smooth vehicular movement and convenience of the public, heavy and medium goods vehicles, trucks, and tankers are advised to avoid the stretch during this period. Local, emergency, and essential services vehicles are exempted.
All types of goods vehicles and buses are advised to avoid the route via Pumpwell/Nanthoor-Padil- Kannur-Adyar-Sahyadri-Arkula-Farangipete-Thumbay- BC Road. Light vehicles and two-wheelers heading to or from Mangaluru via Padil-Kannur-Adyar Katte are also urged to use alternate routes. No parking is allowed on either side of NH-73 in the affected areas.
Police suggested alternative routes to ease traffic congestion. Vehicles coming from Puttur, Bantwal, or Belthangady towards Mangaluru or Kasaragod can take the Melkar Junction route via Boliyar, Mudipu, Deralakatte, and Thokkottu.
Vehicles coming from BC Road towards Mangaluru or Udupi can use the Polali Dwara route via Panchayat Junction, Neermarga, Baiturli, Kulashekara, and reach Nanthoor Junction.
Light vehicles from BC Road, Thumbay, or Farangipete can take the Valachil route and proceed via Merlapadavu, Neermarga, and Baithurli to Nanthoor Junction, or travel via Adyar Katte, Harekala Bridge, Konaje, Deralakatte, and Thokkottu to reach the city.
Vehicles heading towards BC Road from Mangaluru can use the Pumpwell route via Thokkottu, Deralakatte, Mudipu, Boliyar, and Melkar.
Traffic from Surathkal towards BC Road can take the road via Bikarnakatte, Kulshekar, Baiturli Junction, Neermarga and Kalpane Junction. From the KPT Circle, commuters can travel via Padavinanagadi, Pacchanadi, Vamanjoor, Baithurli Junction, Neermarga, and Kalpane, or opt for the Bondel, Kavoor, Bajpe, Kaikamba, and Moodbidri route.
Vehicles from Mulki heading towards BC Road or Udupi can travel via Kinnigoli, Moodbidri, Siddakatte, and Bantwal. Those coming from Padubidri can take the route via Karkala, Moodbidri, Siddakatte, and Bantwal.
Police requested the public to cooperate and plan their travel accordingly, to avoid inconvenience.
