Madurai:
Madurai corporation has submitted a proposal to upgrade
Elango corporation schoolinto a full-fledged model school equipped with modern facilities. According to corporation education officials, Elango school, located in a spacious area and currently offering classes from standards VI to XII, saw consistent growth in student strength. With adequate space for vertical and horizontal expansion, it was considered suitable for a
model school upgrade. Once developed, the school will offer classes from standards I to XII and be the first to achieve "model school" status among the corporation-administered institutions in Madurai.Talking to TOI, corporation commissioner Chitra Vijayan confirmed the proposal. "We submitted a proposal to the govt. If it goes through, we are ready to implement the necessary changes and expand further," she said.M P R Ravichandran, head of the education committee in the corporation council, said that three schools—Thiru Vi Ka Corporation School, EVR Corporation School, and Elango School—were initially evaluated for the model school proposal.
"Thiru Vi Ka School lacks the space for further expansion, and EVR School was already developed under several govt schemes. Hence, Elango school was chosen and a proposal was sent exclusively for its upgrade," he explained. The corporation expects to receive about 2 crore from the state govt for the project. In addition, officials are looking to raise funds through corporate social responsibility (CSR).A senior education officer said that the upgraded model school will include
smart classrooms, science and computer labs, digital learning resources, a library, sports infrastructure, and clean sanitation facilities.
