As temp soars, Met predicts heat wave alert for Ludhiana
Ludhiana: Amid rise in day temperatures in the city, the met department has predicted a heat wave conditions for Ludhiana for three days from Tuesday. Meanwhile, the night temperature continues to be recorded above normal in Ludhiana in the last few days.
The latest district-wise weather warnings for Punjab suggest a yellow alert for Ludhiana district for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, predicting a heat wave in the district in these three days. The yellow alert is issued by the met department to advise the departments concerned to be updated with the weather.
Meanwhile, the met department website suggests that the day temperature is expected to increase to 40 degrees Celsius in Ludhiana on Thursday, even as it predicts a "partly cloudy sky with one or two spells of rain or thunder showers." It forecasts the day temperature to drop to 38 degrees on Friday and further drop to 37 degrees on Saturday and remain the same the next day.
As per the met department website, the night temperature is expected to rise to 23 degrees by Friday and then drop to 22 degrees on Saturday and remain the same on Sunday. Meanwhile, there was no adverse weather warning by the met department for Ludhiana district on Monday.
As the sky was mainly clear on Monday, the sun shone brightly and did warm up the weather. According to the met department, the day temperature in Ludhiana on Monday was recorded at 39.2 degrees Celsius, which was 5.9 degrees Celsius more than normal and even 1.1 degrees more than a day before. .
Meanwhile, the night temperature in the city on Monday was recorded at 19.6 degrees Celsius, which is 3.2 degrees more than normal and even 2.6 degrees more than a day before. The night temperature on Monday was the highest in Ludhiana in the last three days, as on Sunday it was 17 degrees and on Saturday it was 17.4 degrees Celsius.
Meanwhile, the residents have started to feel hot conditions prevailing in the city. Simarjeet Singh, a city resident, said though the weather was pleasant in the last many days, he did feel that temperatures, especially day temperatures, have started to rise. He added that because of the hot sun outside, he mostly avoids going outdoors between 11am and 3pm.
Another resident Dinesh Kumar said because of the days getting hot, he has increased the intake of fluids and water to keep himself hydrated.
He added that he also insists upon his family members drinking sufficient quantity of fluids, and they prefer to wear cotton clothes in such weather.
