Lucknow: Governor Anandiben Patel on Saturday said that King George's Medical University (KGMU) should prioritise quality, purposeful education and need for research on pregnancy-related issues, including fetal development, maternal nutrition, and pain-free delivery.
Speaking during a review meeting of KGMU's NAAC re-assessment report at Raj Bhavan, the Governor said that the university should prioritise quality and purposeful education, rather than solely focusing on achieving high grades.
She highlighted the importance of incorporating menopause education and research into the university curriculum and promoting awareness around women's health issues.
"Garbha Sanskar (prenatal education) should be added to the curriculum, with both prospective mothers and fathers trained in prenatal care," she said.
Addressing women's health, Patel stressed the need to introduce menopause education and raise awareness about the physical and mental health challenges women face during this phase. She also called for linking research on pregnancy, postnatal care, and menopause with
Ayurveda to promote traditional healthcare practices.
She praised KGMU's cadaveric workshops which train students and surgeons in surgical procedures using donated bodies. She called for better engagement with the transgender community, support for slow learners, and promoting yoga, library use, and DigiLocker degree uploads. She urged strengthening student feedback systems, community outreach, TB patient care, Anganwadi support, and de-addiction initiatives.
She said full commitment was needed to achieve national and international standards of excellence.
She stressed conducting activities outside the campus, strengthening Anganwadi engagement, supporting TB patients, and using university-run radio to spread information on health, education, hygiene, and govt schemes. Special emphasis was placed on ensuring that benefits of welfare schemes like Ayushman Bharat reach intended beneficiaries.
The meeting was attended by additional chief secretary to the Governor Dr Sudhir Mahadev Bobde, special officer (education) Dr Pankaj L Jani, and KGMU vice-chancellor Prof Soniya Nityanand.
