KOTA: An eighteen-year-old boy from Bihar hanged himself in his hostel room in Landmark City under Kunhadi police station on early Tuesday morning. The deceased boy was scheduled to take NEET-UG exam next month.
The teen, who belonged to Chapra in Bihar, had been preparing for NEET-UG in Kota for about a year and staying in a hostel room fitted with an anti-hanging device on the ceiling fan. However, he managed to tie a rope to the main iron hook above the device and hanged himself.
The boy sent a WhatsApp message to his sister in Chapra early Tuesday morning before taking the extreme step.
On receiving the message, the sister alerted the hostel caretaker, who failed to get a response after knocking on the door and subsequently informed the police. Police arrived the spot and broke open the door, discovering the boy hanging from the ceiling fan.
A suicide note was recovered from the scene, in which the deceased clarified that neither his family nor the NEET exam was the reason for his suicide.
He also requested police not to disclose his name, family, or photograph to the media, circle inspector Arvind Bhardwaj of Kunhadi police station said and added stated that the precise reason for the suicide is yet to be ascertained through investigation.
The body has been placed in the mortuary of MBS hospital for post-mortem, which will be conducted after the arrival of his family members.
This case marks the 11th coaching student suicide in Kota so far this year; last year, 17 coaching students died by suicide in the city in 2024.
