Indore: Police on Monday seized four of seven vehicles for rash driving, unauthorised use of hooters and other violations by a group of people who allegedly entered Chamunda Mata temple in Dewas after its closure and thrashed the priest after he refused to let them in on Friday night.
According to SP Puneet Gehlot, a total of four of seven vehicles were seized — one from Ujjain and Indore each, and two from Dewas district. "The search for the remaining three vehicles is underway," he said, adding that based on the identification of the owners, they would be served notices to determine who were using the cars at the time of the incident.
Gehlot said that as per the complaint lodged by the priest's son at Kotwali police station, Jitu Raghuvanshi, who has a past criminal record, arrived at the temple late Friday night with others in a fleet of eight to ten cars. The group members allegedly asked the priest to open the gates and when he refused, he was allegedly abused and beaten up. On the complaint, a case was registered against Raghuvanshi and others under sections 115, 296 and 351 of the BNS for voluntarily causing hurt, verbal abuse and criminal intimidation.
Another case was registered for rash driving, unauthorised use of hooters and endangering the lives of people. The vehicle seized from Ujjain is registered in the name of a petrol pump that belongs to the family of BJP MLA Golu Shukla, officials said on condition of anonymity.
Cong protests priest assault
Controversy surrounding the alleged misbehaviour of Indore MLA Golu Shukla's son, Rudraksh Shukla, with priests at Mata Tekri in Dewas escalated on Monday. Former minister Sajjan Singh Verma and state Congress secretary Pintu Joshi visited Mata Tekri, where they symbolically washed the feet of the priests and sought forgiveness for the incident.
Launching a scathing attack on BJP, Sajjan Singh Verma said, "Aurangzeb demolished temples but the BJP disrupts the Lord's resting chambers. Be it the Khajrana Ganesh temple or the holy abode of Shri Mahakal, now even the Tekri of Maa Chamunda has not been spared from their dirty politics. Maa will punish them."
He further said that such individuals are ‘enemies of Sanatan culture' and urged the public to be wary of their "true colours".
