Davangere: The SSLC examination evaluation process began on Tuesday, revealing serious protocol violations as evaluators conducted evaluations openly within college premises. At Moti Veerappa Govt Pre-University College, designated for Science paper evaluation, teachers were seen marking papers while seated on corridors and compound walls, compromising confidentiality. This irregularity was found due to confusion regarding CET examination registration numbers written on classroom benches, exposing administrative inefficiencies.
The inappropriate sight of evaluators marking crucial examination papers while seated on compound walls indicated a significant deviation from standard assessment protocols. DDPI Kotresh was unavailable for comment as he attended proceedings at the High Court in Bengaluru.
Officials confirmed that five first-floor rooms were specifically designated for evaluation purposes. Despite clear instructions to use these facilities, evaluators continued working outdoors, jeopardising assessment security. Their informal handling of answer scripts indicated a worrying lack of adherence to established procedures.
The Karnataka Secondary Examination and Assessment Board (KSEAB) has established specific guidelines for evaluation centres, mandating RCC-roofed buildings with secure windows, doors, and proper locking systems. The guidelines also specify requirements for adequate desk facilities and evaluator safety. However, these protocols were not followed at the Moti Veerappa Govt Pre-University College.
Rajashekharappa GS, the nodal officer for SSLC answer paper evaluation in Davanagere district, refuted the allegations. He explained that evaluators were only meant to complete registration on Tuesday, as preparations were underway for CET examinations scheduled for April 16 and 17. He acknowledged that 4-5 evaluators began evaluation contrary to instructions but only worked outside briefly, before stopping. "We have not breached the protocol of SSLC evaluation answer papers, no need to worry," he clarified.
He attributed the incident to poor coordination between the high school headmaster and the centre principal.
At the KSEAB facility in Haveri, officials maintained strict protocols during the evaluation process, which continued until lunch hour on the first day. Subsequently, they began organising for the CET examination. The authorities strictly enforced rules prohibiting SSLC answer script evaluation outside designated classrooms.
