Coimbatore police raid properties of con couple, seize seven cars, vital documents
Coimbatore: Three days after the arrest of a con couple, who have duped several people to the tune of Rs8 crore, the city crime branch police on Monday carried out searches at three places belonging to them and seized seven cars, five of them luxury vehicles.
In February this year, the city crime branch police had registered a case against Sivakumar, his wife Dharanya and brother-in-law Harish, all residents of Kotagiri in the Nilgiris district, based on a compliant lodged by R Sivaraman, 23, of East Sambandam Road at RS Puram, stating the trio had cheated him of Rs1.46 crore.
In his complaint, Sivaraman, who was running Vinayaga Enterprises and Vijay Pharma, told police that he befriended the trio, who were running Sivakami pharmacy at Kotagiri, through business connections. "The trio told him that they were running a flower business under an entity named Sivakami Flori Tech India, which they said was cultivating and selling ornamental flowers to both international and domestic markets. They lured him to invest in the firm by promising huge returns," a police officer said.
Sivaraman subsequently invested Rs1.46 crore in the firm from October to November, 2024, and the couple gave him promissory notes with their signatures. "When he didn't receive any profit, he asked them to return the capital amount, but in vain. Meanwhile, he came to know that the couple had cheated several others as well. On December 13, Sivaraman and four other victims approached the couple and their relative, asking them to return their investment. The trio threatened them, stating they would lodge a complaint against them for usury," the officer said.
Based on Sivaraman's compliant, the city crime branch police registered a case against the trio on April 17, 2025, and arrested the couple the very next day. The couple were later remanded in judicial custody. Harish is still at large.
On Tuesday, three teams of city crime branch police carried out searches at the properties belonging to the couple at Thengumaragaad, Vanjipalayam and Bhavani Sagar, and seized seven cars, a motorcycle, a goods auto and numerous documents.
Pointing out that more people had fallen prey to the trio, the officer said they had urged the remaining victims to approach them.
