Rohit Shetty, known for making hit cop universe films in Bollywood, recently spoke about his franchise, which he started with no plans for a sequel. He also shared that 'Simmba' and 'Sooryavanshi' will soon have sequels.
In a recent interaction with Game Changers, Rohit reflected on how it all began with Singham in 2011, which later expanded into a full-fledged franchise featuring Singham Returns, Simmba, Sooryavanshi, and the latest instalment, Singham Again.
Shetty revealed that there were no initial plans to build a universe when Singham was made. When he made Singham, he had no idea that the film would become such a huge brand. The idea of connecting stories across films only came later, during the scripting of Simmba, which eventually led to the creation of a shared universe with the introduction of Akshay Kumar’s 'Sooryavanshi'.

Shetty confirmed the development of sequels and spin-offs that will further expand the franchise. “Simmba ka bhi part 2 hoga, Sooryavanshi bhi aage badhegi. Aur bhi log aayenge. Aur bhi filmein banengi cop universe mein. So, isliye we created that universe,” he said, indicating that not only are Simmba 2 and a continuation of Sooryavanshi on the cards, but more characters and films are also in the pipeline.
The filmmaker also shed light on the thought process behind the 2024 mega-project Singham Again, which brings together a host of characters, both old and new. According to Shetty, the concept for this ensemble cast film was formulated back in 2019 during the production of Sooryavanshi. The team had already envisioned how new entrants like Deepika Padukone and Tiger Shroff would be introduced and how their narratives would unfold.
Shetty clarified, “So, it’s not just that they are coming for 10–15 minutes and after that, they don’t have any work.” The intent was always to craft distinct arcs for these characters, hinting at solo ventures for both Deepika and Tiger Shroff in the future.
Singham Again turned out to be a massive hit, featuring Ajay Devgn, Akshay Kumar, Ranveer Singh, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Tiger Shroff, Deepika Padukone, Arjun Kapoor, and Jackie Shroff in key roles.
