85-yr-old woman murdered by son after dispute over insurance claim
Ahmedabad: An 85-year-old woman was murdered late on Tuesday night in Kheda district, allegedly by her son, following a dispute over an insurance claim. The incident occurred in Vansar village of Matar taluka.
According to the police complaint filed by victim Baluben Chunara's grandson, Vikram Chunara (31), his grandmother lived with her son, Bhupat Chunara, in Matar. Bhupat's son, Chandrakant, died in an accident, following which an insurance claim was settled. After his death, his wife, Dharmistha, lived with the family but later moved back to her parents' house, reportedly due to harassment.
The FIR stated that Bhupat frequently fought with Baluben over the insurance money and insisted on bringing Dharmistha back. On Tuesday night, Vikram returned home and heard an argument between Bhupat and Baluben. He saw Bhupat allegedly strike Baluben below her left ear with a sharp object, causing her to collapse on the steps outside the house.
Vikram tried to intervene but was threatened by Bhupat. Vikram informed his father and aunt, who rushed to the scene. Police were called, and Bhupat was arrested from the spot with the alleged murder weapon in his hand.
Baluben was taken to the govt hospital in Matar, where she was declared dead. The body was later sent for postmortem.
Matar police on Wednesday registered a case of murder under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and initiated further investigation.
