4 cops, 1 undertrial prisoner die in road crash in Aligarh
Agra: Four UP police personnel, including a sub-inspector, and a murder undertrial were killed and a fifth cop was critically injured when the van in which they were travelling rammed into a stationary mini-truck in Aligarh on Thursday morning.Police said the five cops were taking the 52-year-old inmate for a court appearance in Muzaffarnagar.Aligarh SP Sanjeev Suman said, "The van belonged to police in Firozabad. The accident happened when they reached the Chikawati point under Lodha thana. A probe is on to determine the exact cause of the incident and further action will be taken accordingly."A case under BNS sections 281 (rash driving), 125-A (doing any act endangering human life or personal safety of others) and 106-1 (causing death by negligence) was registered against an unknown person and the mini-truck was seized for "not parking properly".Those dead were identified as SI Ram Sanjeevan (58), head constable Chandra Pal (56), constables Raghuveer Singh and Balveer Singh (58) and inmate Gulshanwar Ahmed (52). Constable Raghuveer was about to retire on May 31. The four police personnel were stationed at Firozabad police lines. The injured cop, Sherpal Singh, is battling for life at a private hospital.Police said the undertrial was lodged in Firozabad jail in a murder case and was to attend a hearing in Muzaffarnagar court.After the accident, a crane was used to pull out the van's occupants. The bodies were sent for postmortem.
