Thiruvananthapuram: In a significant shake-up of the state's police leadership, the govt appointed Manoj Abraham as the new director of the vigilance and anti-corruption bureau. He replaces Yogesh Gupta, who was posted as director general of fire and rescue services.M R Ajith Kumar, a senior officer often in the spotlight for his controversial tenures, has been appointed as the new excise commissioner. He was serving as additional director general of police, armed police battalions. His posting comes amid renewed attention on excise enforcement and administrative overhaul in the department.Mahipal Yadav, who previously held the post of excise commissioner, has been shifted as ADGP (crimes). Meanwhile, Balram Kumar Upadhyay, who was leading the prisons and correctional services, will now head the Kerala Police Academy.In other key postings, G Sparjan Kumar, IG (intelligence), will take charge as IG (crimes I), in Thiruvananthapuram. P Prakash, IG (crimes III), based in Kozhikode, has been posted as IG, coastal police.K Sethu Raman, who was serving as director of the Police Academy, has been appointed as director general of prisons and correctional services. A Akbar, currently IG (crimes II), Kochi, will assume charge as IG, internal security.
