GURGAON: A group of bikers who were assaulted near the Dwarka Expressway in Gurgaon early Sunday morning used artificial intelligence (AI) tools to track down the four accused men.
The riders submitted GoPro footage and matched visuals using a paid facial recognition platform, which helped police identify the suspects.
One of the bikers had a GoPro camera mounted on his high-end sports bike, capturing the assault in real-time.
Using clear visuals from the GoPro and uploading them to FaceCheck ID — an AI-powered facial recognition service — they began scanning social media to trace the accused. The platform, which allows users to cross-reference faces against online profiles, helped them pinpoint the identities of the attackers.
The footage depicts two people engaging in violent behaviour towards multiple motorcyclists while hurling verbal abuse.
One assailant wears yellow shorts paired with a grey T-shirt, while his accomplice dons a red sleeveless vest with track pants. During the altercation, one aggressor questions the riders about an alleged vulgar gesture, to which a motorcyclist responds with denial and repeated apologies.
A third man, apparently one of the SUV occupants, is seen taking photos of bike number plates.
The incident took place around 7:30am as the bikers, who had gathered near Ambience Mall for a ride to Manesar, approached the Kherki Daula toll plaza.
According to 27-year-old software developer Hardik Sharma, the group was chased and later attacked by four intoxicated men traveling in a black Scorpio SUV.
"We tried to de-escalate the situation, but they started throwing punches. Most of the bikers ran from the spot. I fled too but returned when I saw one of our friends was stuck with them. Then they caught me and the other biker escaped. I even apologised for something I didn't do, but they began swinging a baseball bat at me," Sharma said, adding that: "Fortunately, it hit my helmet and not my head."
Sharma alleged that the men also brandished knives and threatened to kill them. The four then turned on his Kawasaki Z900 — valued at Rs 8-9 lakh — and smashed it with the baseball bat.
Gurgaon police said the four men, all residents of Uttam Nagar in Delhi, were arrested near Kherki Daula toll plaza on Tuesday.
