RUDRAPUR: A 40-year-old man was found dead in Thapaliya Link Road area of Almora on Sunday.
According to police, children discovered the body lying behind a house, approximately 100m below the road, while playing. They alerted the residents, prompting a large crowd to gather.
On information, police rushed to the spot and identified the dead as head constable Anil Rawat, who was posted at Police Line in Almora. He was transferred to Almora from Udham Singh Nagar on Wednesday, and belongs to Mehanar Bunga village in Bageshwar district. He was a part of the 2007 batch, said police.
SSP Devendra Pincha and other senior officers arrived at the spot and initiated an investigation. The body was taken into custody and sent for a post-mortem examination. A forensic team was also called in to determine the exact cause of death.
"We have informed the family of the dead. Police are thoroughly investigating all angles to determine whether this was an accident or foul play was involved," said deputy SP Gopal Dutt Joshi.
