Vijay Bahuguna is an Indian politician and former chief minister of Uttarakhand.

He is the eldest son of Late Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna who was a freedom fighter, an eminent politicians and also former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh.

Bahuguna represented the Tehri Garhwal constituency of Uttarakhand. He submitted his resignation as Chief Minister of Uttarakhand on 31 January 2014. His government had received widespread criticism for handling rescue operations in the wake of floods in June, 2013. Later, Harish Rawat was sworn as chief minister on February 1, 2014 in presence of Governor of Uttarakhand, Aziz Qureshi.

Bahuguna, a member of Indian National Congress, was disqualified from the state assembly under the anti-defection law. His defection led to President’s rule being imposed in Uttarakhand.

On May 19, 2016 he joined BJP with eight other rebel Congress MLAs.
