The All India Trinamool Congress is a political party that was found by politician Mamata Banerjee. The party was founded on January 1, 1998 as a breakaway faction of the Indian National Congress and as of 2018, TMC is active in Tripura, West Bengal and Manipur.

After being a member of the Congress party for around 26 years, Mamata Banerjee formed her own party of Bengal, the Trinamool Congress. The Election Commission on September 2, 2016 recognized AITC as a national political party.

Before the 2009 general elections, TMC was the sixth largest party in the Lok Sabha having 19 seats. But now after the 2014 general election, it is currently the fourth largest party in the Lok Sabha with 34 seats.

In Tripura, the party is led by former leader of opposition and current MLA, Sudip Roy Barman.
