Hardik Patel is an Indian politician and social activist who galvanized Patidar masses in a Gujarat-wide movement to demand reservations in the OBC quota in the year 2015. Patel made his political debut in the Gujarat Assembly Election 2022 from the Viramgam seat and beat the Congress' Bharwad Bhikhabhai and the AAP's Amarsinh Thakor by over 50,000 votes each.

He is a B.Com graduate who helped his father run a small submersible-pumps business in rural Ahmedabad. Hardik, who graduated with less than 50% marks from Ahmedabad's Sahajanand College, comes from an average middle-class Patidar family from Viramgam, near Ahmedabad.

Patel now is the convener of Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS). His father is engaged in farming.

Thousands of people are following young Hardik Patel from Ahmedabad in order to qualify for reserved quotas in education and government jobs.

On November 13, 2017, Hardik got embroiled in a controversy as two sex video clips, which allegedly showed him with an unknown woman went viral on the social media. Nearly 10 days prior to this, Hardik had predicted the same that a tampered sex CD would make rounds soon to defame him. He said, "Soon they will release my sex CD. Enjoy, keep watching.” The video clips are from the night of May 16, 2017 and left the social media in agitation. The authenticity of both the video clips could not be verified.

Considered to be a great success for the party, Hardik Patel’s massive rally in Surat on December 3, 2017 saw more than 50,000 people who turned in his support for the roadshow.
