Cops get two-day custody of former YSRCP MP Gorantla Madhav
Vijayawada: A Guntur court granted two-day police custody of YSRCP leader and former MP Gorantla Madhav. The court order allows Nagarampalem police to question Madhav on Wednesday and Thursday. Madhav is currently lodged in Rajahmundry Central Jail under judicial remand.
Guntur police earlier filed a petition seeking five-day custody of Madhav in connection with a recent assault case. He allegedly attacked a TDP worker, Chebrolu Kiran Kumar, while the latter was in police custody in Guntur. Madhav was also accused of assaulting police officers who tried to intervene and chased police vehicles to the district police office, where he reportedly continued his aggressive behaviour.
Following complaints filed by the police personnel involved, a case was registered. Madhav, along with his aides — Chigandi Ramesh, Thalla Damodar, Digiventi Sivaprasad, Chidagondla Sivayya, and Goundla Surender, all hailing from Anantapur district — were arrested and produced in court on April 11. The magistrate sent them to judicial custody, and they were subsequently transferred to Rajahmundry Central Jail.
Police are set to question Madhav further during the two-day custody period, focusing on the circumstances of the assault and the involvement of his followers.
