BARC to establish AKRUTI Kendra at Gitam University
Visakhapatnam: The Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), through its AKRUTI (Advanced Knowledge and Rural and Urban Technology Implementation) program, has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Gitam Technology Enabling Centre (GTEC), Gitam Deemed to be University, Visakhapatnam. The collaboration aims to establish an AKRUTI Kendra on the Gitam campus, which will serve as a platform for technology translation and commercialisation, particularly for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and local industries.
The MoU was exchanged between Gitam Registrar Dr. D Gunasekharan and department of atomic energy (DAE) technology transfer and collaboration division and public awareness and media interaction division head Daniel Babu in the presence of Gitam Vice-Chancellor Dr. Errol D'Souza, BARC technology transfer and collaboration division AKRUTI group leader Bharati A. Bhalera. GTEC coordinator Prof Raja P Pappu, Gitam distinguished professors Guraada Ravi Kumar and Prof.Butchi Venkata Rao Tata.
The AKRUTI program, a flagship initiative by DAE-BARC, focuses on deploying advanced atomic research technologies for societal applications, particularly in rural and urban development. The newly established AKRUTI Kendra at Gitam will act as a catalyst in enabling access to BARC-developed technologies, fostering innovation, and bridging the gap between research and industry needs.
