UP family sitting outside homeran over by car, three dead
Gorakhpur: A speeding car ran over a family sitting outside their home in Raghunathpur Tola, Bhagwanpur, under Gulriha police station limits, late Friday night. Three members of the family, including a mother and her daughter, died, while four others sustained critical injuries.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took note of the incident and expressed condolence to the bereaved families. He directed district officials to ensure immediate medical attention to the injured. The Chief Minister has instructed the administration to provide all necessary assistance to the victims' families.
According to police, around 10:30pm, after dinner, the family members were sitting outside their home to enjoy the breeze, when a car, travelling at nearly 100 kmph, lost control and ran over the charpoy (cot) on which the victims were seated.
Hearing screams, villagers rushed to the spot and found that four men from the car were trying to flee. Locals nabbed one of them who identified himself as a photographer hired for a wedding function. The other three managed to escape.
Police recovered liquor bottles and glasses from the car. The vehicle has been seized and an investigation was underway.
Those killed were identified as Sayda Khatoon (45), her daughter Sufiya (16) and Rabia Khatoon (32), daughter of Hakimuddin. Others injured include Sayda's son Badre Alam, Hakimuddin's wife Mariam (50), their son Zuber (14), and grandson Nihal (5). All were rushed to BRD Medical College, where Sayda and Sufiya were declared brought dead. Rabia succumbed to injuries during treatment.
SP City Abhinav Tyagi confirmed the car bearing registration number UP 53 ES 5239 was involved in the accident. The vehicle is registered in the name of Sushila Devi, resident of Jhungiya Bazar in Fatehpur. Police have taken one suspect into custody and are interrogating him to ascertain the sequence of events. A manhunt is underway to nab the remaining accused.
