Man arrested for killing father in UP’s Jaunpur
Varanasi: A joint police team from Sarpatha police station and Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) arrested Akhilesh, aged 35, on Sunday night for killing his father by hitting him with a stick in a monetary dispute.
Jaunpur SP Kaustubh said that Akhilesh was arrested after he confessed to killing his father, Prabhakar Singh, aged 65, in Deeh Ashrafabad on Friday. The police also recovered the stick used in the crime.
The initial investigation revealed that Prabhakar had sold family land to some people. The father and son were discussing about the money obtained from the sale when a heated argument occurred between them. During the argument, Akhilesh struck his father on head with a stick, resulting in his death.
To misguide the police, Akhilesh changed his clothes and spent 2-3 hours at a roadside dhaba (food outlet) before returning home around 1am. On Saturday morning, he went to work and later informed the police about his father's murder around 12.30pm.
The police initiated their investigation after sending the body for a postmortem. Based on evidence, including a video of the conversation and threats from the accused's mobile, the police took Akhilesh into custody and began questioning him.
