Vadodara: A deputy mamlatdar and a peon working for an outsourcing agency were caught in the anti-corruption bureau (ACB) in Godhra, for an alleged Rs 1 lakh bribe.
A trap was set after the complainant approached the ACB, alleging that the deputy mamlatdar had demanded Rs 2.5 lakh as a bribe from him at the Godhra sub-division office, to resolve an objection to a land deal. The complainant had bought land for his partner, but a man objected to the deal, laying claim to the land.
The complainant approached the officials with a reply. The deputy mamlatdar, Mohammed Naeem Ranavadiya, allegedly sought a bribe of Rs 2.5 lakh but they negotiated it down to Rs 1 lakh.
The complainant was to hand the money to the peon, Ganpat Patel. The peon came to accept the bribe and was caught. Conversations regarding the bribe and Patel coming to take the bribe on behalf of Ranavadiya allegedly took place when the complainant went to pay the money.
