Two arrested for assaulting house owner in Srirangam

Trichy: Srirangam police arrested two men including a tenant for verbally abusing and assaulting a 62-year-old woman, the accused man's landlord over a domestic dispute.
V Thamaraiselvi, a resident of Sriram garden in Thiruvanikoil, had leased out one of her properties to R Narayanan, 52, in Jan. Since then, the tenant had been complaining to the landlord about disruptions in electricity and water supply.
On April 13, while sharing a similar grievance to Thamaraiselvi, Narayanan got into a verbal altercation. The argument turned violent as Narayanan, his wife N Dhanalaxmi, their acquaintances R Karthik and G Nandhini verbally abused and assaulted the woman landlord.
Police said that Narayanan and Karthik assaulted the victim by hand and pulled her down on the floor. After damaging the gate of the property, the accused threatened the woman. Based on a complaint lodged by Thamaraiselvi on Tuesday night, police booked a case under BNS sections 296 (b) (obscene acts), 324 (4) (damages caused to properties), and 351 (3) (criminal intimidation) and arrested Narayanan and Karthik.
A case under the Women Harassment Act was also booked. Police said that Dhanalaxmi and Nandhini were not arrested but booked. Further inquiries are underway.
