Thiruvananthapuram corporation staff member attacked for filming three men dump waste in drain
Thiruvananthapuram: A staff member of the city corporation, who works on a daily wage basis, was attacked by three men for filming them dumping waste in a drain near SP Fort Hospital on Thursday morning.
The staff member, identified as Rahul, 27, of Gokulam near Nelpallivilakam at Iranimuttam, spotted the accused arriving at the spot in an autorickshaw and dumping a sack containing slaughter waste, plastics and other items into the drain. The staff member then proceeded to film them dumping the waste in his mobile phone, but the accused noticed him. Annoyed by this, the accused started beating him and abused him using vulgar language. They escaped from the scene after damaging his mobile phone.
People passing by the area alerted the police and hospitalised Rahul.
Fort police registered a case over the incident under sections of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 296 (b) for abusing, 351 (2) for criminal intimidation and 115 (2) for voluntarily causing hurt. "We have identified the accused as Suresh, Prasanth, and Shameer of Karimadom Colony and they will be nabbed soon," said the police.
It was learned that the accused usually collect slaughter and hotel waste from various places for money and dump them in public spaces. "I spotted them dumping waste at a different spot before as well. But I could not identify them at that time. This time, I collected crucial evidence to trace them," said Rahul.
